Skin tags are a common condition characterised by small, benign growths that typically appear on the neck, underarms, eyelids, and other areas of the body, predominantly where skin rubs against skin or clothing.
They are generally harmless, but there are comfort and cosmetic reasons why you may want to get your skin tags removed.
Physically, they can be itchy and irritating, especially in areas where they rub against your skin and clothing, and it can be very painful when you get them snagged on jewellery or caught on clothes. In some cases, skin tags may bleed if they are accidentally torn or scratched, which can lead to infection.
Emotionally, they can impact your self-esteem and confidence, especially if they are large and very noticeable, or located in highly visible areas like the face.
At the Dermatouch Skin Clinic, in Whiteley, Fareham, we use an effective method called advanced electrolysis to remove skin tags. We have over 20 years experience removing skin tags and we prefer this method over surgical excision or cryotherapy (freezing) because it is minimally invasive, with proven success.
One of the great things about advanced electrolysis is that it's suitable for skin tags of all shapes and sizes. Whether you have lots of small tags or a larger one on a long stalk, we can help remove it quickly and easily.
We start on a one-to-one basis in a warm and welcoming environment, where you can relax and feel completely at ease. We’ll explain exactly how the treatment works and answer any questions you may have before we get started.
For large skin tags we use a small probe, connected to our state-of-the-art advanced electrolysis machine, to pierce through the ‘stalk’ just proud of skin level. A high frequency alternating electrical current is painlessly applied, only to this exact spot, which cauterises the blood vessels that supply the skin tag with nutrients and oxygen. The residue tissue shrinks back leaving the skin looking normal again.
Tiny tags are ‘skinned’ then the bulb is pierced to destroy the tissue. The tissue then atrophies and drops off, leaving the skin looking smooth and clear. This technique is quick and easy.
Aftercare is minimal for skin tag removal, you’ll be able to get back to your daily routine right away, though larger based skin tags do need more management post treatment as you have to cauterise through a larger area of tissue to fully remove them.
We know that it can be a big decision to start your skin tag removal treatment, but we’re here to make the process as easy and as painless as possible and we can't wait to help you feel confident and comfortable in your skin again!
